Bishop Ronald W. Gainer will ordain three men to the order of the presbyterate, during a Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Lexington, Saturday, May 18, at 10:30 a.m.

Last week, 8 men from across the Diocese joined us as we visited the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH.

Sunday, April 21st is the 50th Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations.

On April 8 the diocesan Serra Club hosted an open-house for those interested in learning how they can join in the group’s effort to promote vocations. The event, held at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington, began with a Rosary and Mass for vocations, followed by a time for learning more about the club.

The dinner is offered by Bishop Gainer and the Office of Vocations as an opportunity for parents to come together and share in their sons' experience.

Last night Bishop Gainer welcomed nearly a dozen young men discerning the priesthood to his house for dinner and discussion.

Jonathan Huber was officially accepted into the Abbey of Gethsemane on December 14, 2012 and has begun their formation process.

The Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) at Georgetown University recently released their report from a national poll of never-married Catholics regarding their consideration of a vocation.

This past weekend, several men from the diocese travelled north to the Pontifical College Josephinum for a Come & See weekend. They experienced classes, meals, prayer, and fellowship sa they sought a closer glimpse of seminary life.

On October 29 and 30, 2012, students and parishioners gathered with Bishop Gainer for Ausculta ("listen") Dinners at Eastern Kentucky University and Morehead State University.

Last weekend at the St. Meinrad Come & See, our group sat in on classes, shared in prayers and meals, and spent time getting to know the Lexington Seminarians.

Four of our seminarians helped facilitate the Lexington Diocesan Youth Rally on October 6th. Put on by the diocesan Youth and Young Adult Ministry, the event gathered young people from across the Diocese of Lexington for a day of activities, song, fellowship, and prayer.

On Saturday, we gathered for our first "Hands of Mary Workshop & Potluck Luncheon" to discuss practical ways of promoting vocations at the parish level.

Relatives and friends of seminarians visited the Josephinum in late September for the annual Parent and Family Weekend.

The Vocations Office has ordered the new Daily Vocation Prayers bookmark in Spanish. The bookmarks will feature the exact same vocation prayers and intentions, and will be available at the beginning of October.

New "Voices of Mary" Bookmarks have been created to promote daily prayer for vocations. Praying for an increase in numbers and devotions of particular vocations is one of the best ways that we can create a culture of vocations in our diocese.

The Serra Club, with help from the Knights of Columbus, hosted the first annual "Seminarian Sendoff" for our 14 seminarians and their families on Sunday, August 12th.

Fr. Ralph Beiting, a wonderful example of what it means to live out the vocation of the priesthood to the fullest, passed away early on the morning of August 9, 2012.

Mr. Ken Kendall and his wife Helen were presented with the 2012 "Bishop's Vocation Award" at this year's "Mary, Mother of Vocations" Conference.

The 3rd Annual "Mary, Mother of Vocations" Conference was a huge hit on Saturday. Fr. Denis Robinson OSB gave a great talk on how we must stretch ourselves to reach out to the Millennial generation, and close to 90 people gathered to listen, learn, share, and pray.

On July 27th, Bishop Ronald Gainer joined our seminarians for dinner to hear about their summer assignments and wish them well in their coming year of studies. This annual event is always a real treat for our seminarians, who appreciate getting to know their Bishop and receiving his enthusiastic support.

Congratulations to Katie Byrd, now Sr. Mary Faustina of the Merciful Redeemer! She recently received her new name and habit and will soon begin her canonical year with the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word in Birmingham, AL.

Bishop Gainer hosted a summer cookout for men discerning the priesthood on June 5.

On June 2, 3 seminarians were ordained as transitional deacons along with 20 who were ordained to the permanent diaconate.

From May 29 through June 1, our seminarians gathered at Cliffview Retreat Center for the annual Seminarian Convocation.
